5 Important Questions To Ask a Husky Breeder
If you have been thinking about getting a husky puppy it’s important that you know what to ask potential breeders when you are interviewing them. Buying your first puppy can be a bit overwhelming and if you are considering husky puppies then there are some breed specific questions that you definitely need to ask. It would be a good idea to learn as much about husky puppies on your own before you decide to talk to a breeder. Being armed with information will only help you.
- One of the first questions you’ll want to ask a husky breeder is what type of lifestyle they feel a Siberian husky would require. Huskies are pack dogs and it’s in their nature to crave companionship. A good response to this question would be that huskies require a good deal of attention. They will not do well on their own for long periods of time. If human companionship isn’t readily available having another canine to keep your husky company may be something you would want to consider.
- You will most certainly want to ask about the grooming requirements for husky puppies. Siberian huskies have very thick coats. They need to be brushed quite often, especially during their shedding periods, which will occur twice a year. Otherwise, occasional brushing your husky will help with shedding. Huskies have long fur that can get matted if it is not brushed and kept clean. Having your husky pups bathed three or four times a year will help maintain their coats shine and this will also cut down on the shedding too.
- One of the most important questions you must ask a husky breeder is regarding the type of exercise that huskies require. Huskies will require ample exercise to keep them happy and healthy. A brief jog in the park or a brisk daily walk will do. Playing ball, tug-a-war, and frisbee are some other games that husky puppies will enjoy.
- It’s a great idea to ask the breeder if you can meet the puppies parents. A reputable Siberian huksy breeder will have the husky puppies parents on the premises. If a breeder is reluctant about showing you the puppies parents, then they probably do not want you to see them or they do not own them at all. What ever the reason, this is an immediate red flag.
- You’ll want to know how many different breeds of dogs are being bred by the breeder. Breeders usually stick to only selling one type of dog. If a breeder has husky puppies for sale along with chihuahuas, beagles, labs, rottweilers, shih tzu’s, etc. then they are probably in it for the money not the dogs. Most people breed dogs because they are passionate about dogs and they have a deep love and respect for that particular breed. So, having to many too many breeds is also a no-no!

Finding Husky Puppies For Sale on Long Island
So, a friend of mine has been talking about husky puppies for about a year now. She is the type of person that loves to research any possible purchase that she may make. Considering a husky puppy for a pet is a pretty big deal, so I applauded her for wanting to do her homework about husky puppies before she made any decisions.
Aside from researching the breed to find out what is involved with raising husky pups; she also started researching breeders in hopes of finding a good match. Finding a local breeder seemed to be the biggest obstacle she encountered. She lives on Long Island and being so close to New York City, she figured there must a Siberian Husky Breeder nearby. Apparently not.
This isn’t to say that are not husky puppies for sale on Long Island, she just didn’t find a breeder that she felt was a good fit. She did however find a lot of husky pups for sale at kennels that also had tons of other dog breeds available as well. Most of these kennels claim that they get their puppies from breeders, which could be true, but it’s not uncommon for places like this to get their puppies from puppy mills. I would not recommend buying a puppy that you suspect came from a puppy mill. Puppies that are born in puppy mill conditions are subject to a lot of problem.
Hart -Huskies was the closest Siberian Husky Breeder that my friend thought was worth looking in to. They are located in Connecticut, which really isn’t that far away, and after browsing through their website, they seemed like they were responsible breeders. They have over 23 years of experience and they only had a few dogs that they breeding. Dealing with an experienced breeder is the safest thing to do. Most reputable breeders have experience and they truly care about where their puppies go.

New York State Siberian Husky Breeders is a website comprised of a network of Siberian Husky breeders. The group places most of the husky puppies found on their site with families living in New York City, Long Island, and upstate New York. However, the puppies listed on this site come from a nationwide network of breeders so that doesn’t necessarily mean they are located in New York State.
Another nice feature of the site is the availability of help finding a husky puppy even it’s not one of the husky puppies found at New York State Husky Breeders.
