Husky puppies are excellent family pets and they are wonderful with children.  It’s important that you are prepared for your new husky puppy before you bring them home. There are a few things that you will need to make sure that you have prior to your new pups arrival.

One of the most important things you will have decide on is what type of food you will feed your new puppy. Like all puppies, husky puppies need a balanced diet. If you have done a research about husky puppies then you know that they will need a diet that is high is protein and full of vitamins and minerals. Buying a generic puppy may not be the best idea because many of the cheaper puppy foods may be made with by-products and preservatives that can be harmful to a growing pup. You also don’t have to go out and spend tons of money on fancy gourmet pet foods either. The most important thing you need to look at when purchasing a  puppy food is the protein content, the omegas, and the fat content.

You will also need a nice set of bowls. One for water and one for food. Getting your husky pup bowls that have rubber on the bottom is a great idea. Whenever you and your husky puppy venture outdoors, you will want to make sure that he/she is on a leash. Husky puppies are strong and they have an innate desire to pull. Getting your puppy a harness rather than a leash is probably the better way to go. It will prevent them from choking themselves and they will learn how to walk with you much faster.

All puppies love to chew. To help satisfy their chewing habits, it’s important to give your new puppy some chew toys. There are a variety of dog toys that are made especially for puppies. Husky puppies will love any toy that involves pulling. They love to play tug-a-war. Be sure that the toys you choose for your husky pup are durable.

All puppies require a lot of love and care. Your new husky puppy will incur expenses even before they arrive. If you  stock up on everything that your puppy will need before they come home, you’ll make sure that your new puppy’s first day with you is an enjoyable one!

Finding Husky Puppies For Sale on Long Island

So, a friend of mine has been talking about husky puppies for about a year now. She is the type of person that loves to research any possible purchase that she may make. Considering a husky puppy for a pet is a pretty big deal, so I applauded her for wanting to do her homework about husky puppies before she made any decisions.

Aside from researching the breed to find out what is involved with raising husky pups; she also started researching breeders in hopes of finding a good match. Finding a local breeder seemed to be the biggest obstacle she encountered.  She lives on Long Island and being so close to New York City, she figured there must a Siberian Husky Breeder nearby. Apparently not.

This isn’t to say that are not husky puppies for sale on Long Island, she just didn’t find a breeder that she felt was a good fit. She did however find a lot of husky pups for sale at kennels that also had tons of other dog breeds available as well. Most of these kennels claim that they get their puppies from breeders, which could be true, but it’s not uncommon for places like this to get their puppies from puppy mills. I would not recommend buying a puppy that you suspect came from a puppy mill. Puppies that are born in puppy mill conditions are subject to a lot of problem.

Hart -Huskies was the closest Siberian Husky Breeder that my friend thought was worth looking in to. They are located in Connecticut, which really isn’t that far away, and after browsing through their website, they seemed like they were responsible breeders. They have over 23 years of experience and they only had a few dogs that they breeding. Dealing with an experienced breeder is the safest thing to do. Most reputable breeders have experience and they truly care about where their puppies go.

Let’s start by discussing how you can prepare before you bring your new husky puppy home. Husky puppies, like all puppies that are being introduced into a new environment, will most likely be frightened at first. You can get a few things before your husky puppy comes home make their transition more comfortable.

The first thing you’ll want to do is make sure that you have somewhere for your new puppy to sleep. Husky puppies usually howl when they are frightened and you’ll probably notice this at night when it’s time for bed. It would be a good idea to get your husky puppy a nice dog crate to sleep in. Your puppy’s crate will eventually become a comforting place for them to be and you’ll notice that they will not cry as much when they are in their crates. Crate training your husky puppy is something that you should try and start form the very beginning. You can find plenty of dog cages online or you visit your local pet store. I would recommend getting a large dog cage because husky puppies grow up to be big dogs and if get a large dog cage to begin with, you won’t have to buy another one down the line. You can line your puppy’s new house with a an old blanket to keep them comfortable.

Aside from the dog crate it’s important that you have a few other items before you bring your new husky puppy home. Make sure you have a water bowl, a food bowl, a leash, and plenty of chew toys. You can find a variety of all of these dog supplies online or again you can just visit your local pet store.

FYI- We recently started using a new kind of dog bowl system. We always placed our husky’s bowls on a mat on the floor until our vet recommended that we use a bowl stand. It reduces the amount of stress put on your dog’s neck and it makes it much more comfortable for them while they are eating.
